Welcome to the website of Castlepollard and Oldcastle Union of Parishes in the Diocese of Meath and Kildare. There are three churches in our Union of Parishes: St Michael’s, Castlepollard, St Bride’s, Oldcastle and St Bride’s, Mountnugent.
The geographical area covered by the Union is over 450 square kilometres. The countryside is very scenic and includes many lakes, much rolling pasture, important eco-systems of ancient bog and wetland and the country’s largest beech wood at Mullaghmeen. There are many sites of historic significance and interest such as Fore Abbey, Tullynally Castle and the Loughcrew Cairns. Lough Derravaragh, to the south of the Union, is best known for its connection to the Legend of the Children of Lir.
Jesus said, ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life’. (John 14:6)
We are a community of Christians in the Church of Ireland tradition, and part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which has over 80 million members in 164 countries.
The Church of Ireland is autonomous and self-governing. Clergy and laity at Parish, Diocesan and National level gather as followers of Christ to prayerfully shape and govern the life of the Church. The Church of Ireland ordains both women and men, single and married, to the three-fold ministry of Deacon, Priest and Bishop.
In terms of Sunday Worship, we generally have two Church Services in our Union every Sunday (click on the individual churches for details). Our Services embrace a variety of liturgical expressions, from traditional Holy Communion (both 1 and 2) and Morning Prayer to All-Age Worship Services and special occasion Services to mark the liturgical year.
We strive to be faithful to the Good News of Jesus Christ, and to be a place of welcome, support and warmth to each other and all who encounter us as a community.
